Job Requirements of Personal Support Worker - Behavioral Support Agent Program:
EDUCATION:
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Personal Support Worker Certificate received from an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology program OR received from an Accredited PSW Educational Program.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Ability to work effectively with others in an inter-professional care team
- Knowledge of GPA, or willingness to receive training
- Understanding of and the commitment to the principles of Behaviour Supports Ontario
- Person and caregiver focused care
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other members of an inter-professional team, patients and family members
- Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to coach and mentor team members
- Ability to take advantage of teachable moments during the provision of care
- Commitment to the establishment of therapeutic relationships with patients and their families
ASSETS
- Support BSA care plan strategies and interventions by working with the patient for implementation
- Report back to BSA on the outcomes/effectiveness of the strategies and interventions
- Offers suggestions to the development of the BSA care plan with special emphasis on strategies to manage responsive behaviour
- Act as a coach and mentor to hospital staff with the implementation of the care plan
- Share responsibilities for patient care by working together with other staff members
HOURS OF WORK
Temporary Part Time – This is a temporary contract expected to end March 2025. The hours of work will be every other Friday/Saturday/Sunday day shifts. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the SEIU collective agreement.

As a Personal Support Worker (PSW) aiding the Behaviour Success Agent (BSA), you will be responsible for the implementation of care plan strategies and interventions for older adults living with cognitive impairment and responsive behaviour/personal expressions in the acute care setting. Along with keeping with the mission and values of the organization as a member of the interdisciplinary team. In this position, you will perform assigned duties related to patient care as well as providing assistance and support to the health care team on the unit in a patient-focused environment, in accordance with the Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) standards, policies and procedures. Working in collaboration with the BSA, to integrate coaching and mentoring on the care plan and strategies as appropriate. To trial the BSA’s patient specific care plan and provide observations back to the BSA.
